Adam Traum and David Bennett Cohen Live at The Jalopy
Saturday, July 11, 2015, 8:00 p.m.
Free

The Jalopy
315 Columbia Street, Red Hook
415-297-2706

Join Adam Traum and David Bennett Cohen for a night of Americana roots and blues at the Jalopy. Adam Traum is the son of Greenwich Village folk pioneer and music educator Happy Traum. The younger Traum, a songwriter and purveyor of roots music based in Northern California, continues the family tradition while putting his own stamp on the music he grew up with.
David Bennett Cohen, a New York-based pianist and guitar player, was a founding member of the Blues Project and Country Joe and the Fish. Traum and Cohen will be joining forces for an evening of music in Brooklyn.
This is Traum’s debut performance in New York City. He brings his country blues-inflected music with a singer-songwriter sensibility, which is highlighted by Cohen’s soulful blues chops.
Traum will be doing a workshop on blues guitar with a flat pick earlier in the day.
Opening the show will be Tal Naccarato, a skilled country blues player.

He played in various bands - his own band, Les Ambassadeurs du Mandingue, being one of them - but is probably best known as the guitarist in the classic Bembeya Jazz National. Kouyate, who now lives in NY, has reformed the Mandingo Ambassadors, updating the sound of his youth, but keeping it very close to the standard of Authenticité. The new All-Star band includes Mamady "Djelike" Kouyate, guitar, leader; Bebe Camara, vocal; Eudy Fernandez, trumpet; Oran Etkin, tenor sax, clarinet; Sylvain Leroux, flute, Fula flute, alto sax; Sam Dickey, guitar; Nick Cudahy, bass; Andy Algire, drums; Foluso Mimy, percussion.
