High Closing Costs

New York State has the highest closing costs in the country, according to a recent article in the New York Times. The average here, based on a mortgage of $200,000, is $6,183, while the average for the whole country is $4,070. The national figure is 8.8 percent higher than it was a year ago, according to the article, which cited an increase in lender fees as the main cause of the jump.
