Nestled in the elbow between Prospect Park and Green-Wood Cemetery, Windsor Terrace is a residential neighborhood made up of two distinct sections, one of wood-frame detached and semi-detached houses on the slope from Eleventh Avenue down to Caton Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway on the south end and stately brick row houses north of Eleventh Avenue to Prospect Park West. The north section also includes some elegant apartment blocks, both co-ops and rentals.

The original town of Windsor Terrace was incorporated in 1849. It was an attractive area for the waves of immigrants from Germany, Ireland, Poland, and Italy who came to America in the second half of the nineteenth century, the ancestors of many of whom still live in the neighborhood. The main shopping district is Prospect Park West (PPW), serving Windsor Terrace and the south end of neighboring Park Slope.

Recreation options abound, with Prospect Park relatively close to anywhere in the neighborhood. Jogging, biking, sunbathing, baseball, and soccer are just a sampling of the many possible activities that take place there, and the playgrounds at 11th Street and Vanderbilt Street provide hours of fun for young children. And, the nearby Kensington Stables offers horses for riding along the park’s network of riding paths. In addition, for the morbidly curious, Green-Wood Cemetery allows visitors walking access to its beautiful grounds, where the tombstones and mausoleums of many famous--and infamous--Brooklynites can be discovered during an afternoon stroll.

Windsor Terrace has an inviting, small-town feel that continues to draw new residents to the area and is a popular choice among those seeking to make a move within the borough.
