Borough Park, sometimes written “Boro Park” is a neighborhood in the eastern section of Brooklyn that blends tradition with cosmopolitan living. The neighborhood is bordered by Bensonhurst to the south, Bay Ridge to the southwest, Sunset Park to the west, Kensington to the northeast, Flatbush to the east, and Midwood to the southeast.

Borough Park was originally called Blythebourne and was comprised of small cottages built by Electus Litchfield in 1887. Throughout the rest of the nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, Borough Park was further developed with the introduction of an electrified railway. In the 1990s, Borough Park experienced rapid growth of residential development and expansion of commercial business. The neighborhood is presently home to one of the largest Orthodox Jewish communities outside of Israel.

Borough Park is served by P.S. 131, a public school that enrolls students from Pre-K through grade 5 that boasts of its connections with the Brooklyn Music Conservatory, Brooklyn Arts Council, Lincoln Center, Together in Dance, SEA, and Studio in a School. Borough Park is also home to a number of privately run schools, many of which are religiously affiliated and continue the community’s longstanding commitment to Jewish education.
