The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is self-described as "an urban botanic garden that connects people to the world of plants, fostering delight and curiosity while inspiring an appreciation and sense of stewardship of the environment." More than a century old, the garden features some of the most attractive features to be found outdoors, including the Cranford Rose Garden, the Cherry Tree Esplanade, the Shakespeare Garden, the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, the Magnolia Plaza, and when in bloom, Daffodil Hill. The garden is also famous for its efforts in the realms of community education and civic engagement, which include the designated Children’s Garden, begun in 1914. Situated directly behind the Brooklyn Museum and sharing the same parking lot, the garden is accessible by subway or car.
